Internationally acclaimed Norfolk artists Dee Nickerson and Clare Cummins, both represented by Gallery in the Lanes, reveal a new body of work at the Lower Ground Gallery, Gallery in the Lanes, from 16 November.
Dazed + Unglazed
16 November – 3 December
Friends for over thirty years, Dee and Clare both make work deeply rooted in their Norfolk surroundings. Viewing their work side by side, visitors to the exhibition will see and authentic convergence of everyday abstraction, warm colours and modest subject matter.
About the artists
Clare Cummins is a Norfolk-based ceramicist who follows a proud tradition of British Studio Pottery. Clare creates unique figurative sculptures and pots out of clay dug from the fields around her home in Hethersett. Pottery enthusiasts will be delighted by her modernist, hand-worked objects which are reminiscent of work by renowned ceramicist Ruth Duckworth. Clare’s tall forms recall the works of Hans Cooper and her simple unglazed style remembers the work of Dan Arbeid. Those who are new to ceramics will be delighted by Clare’s handsome hand-made objects and her earthy medium
Illustrative painter Dee Nickerson’s career has soared since she was featured in Country Living last year. Working from her caravan-studio in South Norfolk, Dee paints joyful and intimate scenes, inhabited by characters loosely based on her own memories and self-image. Dee’s work is held in several private collections including comedian Jo Brand. Dee site Eric Ravillious and Mary Fedden amongst the artists who influence her.
The exhibition will be open Monday – Saturday from 9.30 to 5.30pm, Sunday 11-4pm
