Ruth Bunnewell’s paintings capture the atmosphere that is connected to a place. She is interested in the memories that are attached to different places, and how these memories alter emotions and perceptions of the space. Ruth is fascinated by woodlands and forests, she says “I find forests both simultaneously beautiful and uncanny and eerie. This is the essence of why I choose to paint them”.
Ruth’s paintings are alive with vivid colour and energy. She takes a painterly approach to depicting these landscapes. Each piece takes the viewer to the moment of walking through nature, of being under a canopy of trees or looking to the distant horizon.
